What Do I Say? What Do I Do? Free Suicide Postvention Workshop
Each and every day in Australia more than 8 people die by suicide. On average 135 people are impacted by each suicide. This means that every year over 400,000 Australians are impacted by suicide. This number accumulates year upon year. Anyone could be impacted by suicide. Would you feel confident to provide support to someone who had been bereaved or impacted by suicide?
Join us for this free, interactive and engaging workshop delivered by Australia's largest and leading Suicide Postvention service StandBy Support After Suicide. What Do I Say? What Do I Do? highlights the importance of language; active listening; and identifying support around a person who has been impacted by suicide, as well as supports that can be put in place to holistically aid that person in coping with their grief and loss. The workshop goes into detail about grief and trauma; and aims to give a person supporting those who have been bereaved or impacted by suicide the confidence to effectively provide support. Participants will explore what makes suicide different from other forms of sudden death; along with support approaches; and have the opportunity to work through a fictitious scenario using support skills and identifying who may be in need of support. Participants will be encouraged to consider self care strategies.
This workshop is open to all members of the community aged 18 years and over.
Morning Tea will be provided. All resources to complete the workshop are provided.
