Experience an extraordinary night of music, storytelling, and visual art that reimagines the rich cultural heritage of Broken Hill. Wide Desert Listening is an interdisciplinary arts project that brings together First Nations songs of Country with devotional Contemporary Sufi Qawwali Fusion music and light projections.

  • Farhan Shah & Sufi Oz – a dynamic eight-piece award winning multicultural ensemble performing powerful Sufi Contemporary Qawwali Fusion music, featuring the blend of traditional musical instruments such as the tabla, harmonium, santoor with modern instruments violin, guitar, keys, drums and soaring vocals, by maestro musicians specialized in world music styles. Including poetry and narration by Nadia Rahim. The Group members come from Northern Ireland, India, Fiji, Spain, Italy, Chile, Japan & Pakistan, they now call this country home.
  • Leroy Johnson – is an acclaimed musician who sings campfire songs, protest ballads and tales from the heart of far west. The Barkindji / Malyangappa National Park Ranger's soulful voice blends folk and country music with ancient and contemporary stories. For the Wide Desert Listening concert Leroy will be joined by musical friends he has collected on his travels.
  • Asma D Mather & Hanifa MacFarlane – transform the Civic Centre with stunning projected artworks inspired by journeys, landscape, Islamic arts and Australia’s cameleering heritage.
