Accessibility focus for playground upgrade

The children's playground in Sturt Park will be closed from August 24 for demolition work and the installation of new play equipment.
A large wheelchair-accessible play castle will be installed in the toddler's area, the existing flying fox will be replaced by a double flying fox, and a disability inclusive swing will also be added.
The equipment was selected through a survey on Council's website and Facebook, and will be installed over the coming months.
Council's Project Officer, Rebecca McLaughlin, said it was hoped the project could be completed in around three months.
"We're aiming for completion in late October or early November, but obviously with the COVID-19 situation there's always the potential for things to get a little complicated," she said.
“Fortunately the tender process saw significant local builder interest and we were able to appoint Barlow Builders to handle construction and demolition.
"We always look to utilise local contractors where possible and having a local company on board should help ensure this project is delivered on time.
“This is only the first stage in upgrades for the play area, and we’ll certainly be looking for funding to make more additions in future.”
The Sturt Park upgrade is funded through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities program, and will be managed by Public Works.
