Mayor Darriea Turley AM

Welcome back to Ask the Mayor Anything!

This installment of the Mayor's regular segment tackles questions about the Airport cafe, truck routes, pets, and more. Read on below the video for answers that we couldn't fit in.

Q. Kirsty Murray - I would like to know what is being done to keep the unregistered, uninsured and unlicensed motor bikes off of the footpaths and roads? They cause damage to property and there could be a serious accident, if someone reverses from their driveway and runs into them. I have emailed Council and spoken to them but was told nothing could be done!

A. Hi Kirsty, this is a police matter. Any occurrences should be reported to the local police on 08 8087 0203 or https://www.crimestoppers.com.au/

Q. Daisy Marie - Is the council going to be working on the footpaths and local council buildings to make them more accessible for disabled people?? At the moment I’m using a walker and it’s hard to get around.

A. Hi Daisy. Unfortunately a lot of infrastructure around the city has not been adequately maintained over the last 20 years, but the current Council is looking to rectify that. In June Councillors voted to spend $13.4 million over the next 10 years to complete footpath and ramp works around 'high priority' areas such as aged care centres, health services, schools, and the CBD.

Q. Gary Wilson - How will your load be weighed at the dump or will they guess? Should be weighed in and then out need another weigh bridge?

A. Hi Gary, the weights of most commercial vehicles have already been entered into our weighbridge software, and for other vehicles there are standard default weights built into the system.

Q. Reg Table - The mural was stopped on the wall of the doctors surgery however the graffiti on the opposite wall is still there, when is council going to remove this?

A. Hi Reg, removal of graffiti on private property is the responsibility of the owner.

Q. Evo Togs - Any plans to fix our footpaths and remove weeds. New street signs clear stop and give way signs.

A. Hi Evo, please see our above response to Daisy regarding footpaths. Council still does what it can to tackle weeds despite limited resources and has implemented a City Enhancement Team to work on clearing high-visibility areas. Council has also placed $200,000 in the 2019/20 budget for the rollout of new street signs.
