Local artist Graeme Armstrong and Northern NSW artist Charlotte Haywood will create special artworks for the city after being selected for the 2023/2024 artist in residency program known as "The Open Cut Commission"
As part of the program, artists were encouraged to present an artistic proposal for the research and development of new work for exhibition at the Gallery.
Mr Armstrong and Ms Haywood will receive $10,000 to undertake field work in the Far West of NSW to develop a creative, responsive project which will be included in the Broken Hill City Art Gallery's 2024 artistic program.
Open Cut builds on the long history of residencies and field work undertaken in the region and continues to support creative practice in regional Australia.
Gallery and Museum Manager, Kathy Graham said that over thirty submissions were received from across Australia.
"The response was fantastic with all 36 submissions being of high quality which made it very difficult to select successful recipients," said Ms Graham.
"I congratulate both Graeme and Charlotte on their successful submissions and am excited to be working with these artists to help achieve the final outcomes of the residencies with their exhibitions in 2024."
The Open Cut Commission is proudly supported by CreateNSW.
