GM accepts new position in Armidale

After serving almost five years as Council's General Manager, James Roncon is set to transfer to Armidale in order to be closer to family.
Mr Roncon recently accepted an offer to serve as Armidale City Council's General Manager, and the appointment was made official at an Extraordinary Meeting held in Armidale today.
Broken Hill City Council recently extended Mr Roncon's tenure by another five years, however he said he could not pass up an opportunity to work closer to his family.
"I've loved my time serving the people of Broken Hill, and had this opportunity not arisen I'd have continued in my role well into the future," he said.
"But I've spent five years separated from my family who are split between the east coast and Victoria, and working from Armidale will make it far easier to spend time with them.
"I am extremely grateful for the faith shown in me by the elected Council, and I believe we have left a solid foundation for the next Council and next General Manager to build upon."
Mr Roncon said he also wished to thank Council staff and the people of Broken Hill.
"I cannot speak highly enough of Council's staff, the support they have given me, and also the work they do on a daily basis for the community," he said.
"The output of this Council defies the lack of resourcing with which it is constantly faced; much like the city itself, this Council punches well above its weight.
"I also wish to thank the people of Broken Hill for welcoming me and allowing me to be part of the community.
"The vast majority of Broken Hill residents have shown me nothing but kindness, generosity, and friendship, and for that I will be forever grateful."
Mayor Darriea Turley AM wished Mr Roncon well in his new position.
"I would like to thank Mr Roncon for the service he has given the people of Broken Hill, and his dedication to the role over the last five years," said Mayor Turley.
"He has made significant and lasting improvements to the manner in which Council operates, particularly in regard to the implementation of Smart technology and renewable energy.
"I wish him every success in his new role with Armidale Regional Council."
Mr Roncon's tenure as General Manager of Broken Hill City Council will come to an end on January 1, 2021.
