Those with an interest in renewable energy and the city's future are encouraged to attend Renewable Energy Workshops being held in the city next week.

The workshops will be hosted by the founder and Executive Director of Constructive Energy, Ashley Bland, at the Civic Centre on Tuesday March 29.

A morning session will be held from 9.30am to 10.30am for community groups and individuals, and an evening sessions for local businesses will be held from 6pm-7pm.

In recent years Council has adopted a Renewable Energy Action Plan, a Sustainability Strategy, and declared a Climate Emergency as a show of commitment toward embracing renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint.

Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said Council would love to hear other ideas from the public around renewable energy options that can be explored.

"Council has stated that it is committed to utilising renewable energy moving forward, and one of the key projects in realising that aim is the construction of a medium-scale solar array to reduce the city's reliance on fossil fuels and decrease costs," he said.

"That's only one project however, and I'm sure there are plenty of people in Broken Hill who have great ideas on how we can embrace renewable energy - not just from a Council perspective, but as a whole community.

"Although we have separate sessions set up for different groups, if you can't make the morning session please come along to the evening session, and vice versa.

"It's important everyone shares their ideas, regardless of if the session is for individuals, groups, or businesses."

Those who cannot make the sessions but wish to provide feedback can contact Council’s Waste and Sustainability Manager, Kathy Graham, on 0427 997 354.
