New roundabout complete

The $1.44 million upgrade of the intersection of Galena, Talc and Mercury Streets is now complete.
The intersection was identified for reconstruction and fully funded under the Federal Government’s Road Safety Stimulus Program.
The reconstruction involved the relocation of electricity infrastructure, ground compaction and geofabrics installation, and construction of a new roundabout, kerbing, and traffic islands.
Council's Chief Assets & Projects Officer, Codie Howard, said it was pleasing to see the troublesome intersection receive the much-needed rebuild.
"This intersection had been the site of several serious multi-vehicle accidents in recent years, so it's great to be able to improve safety for drivers in this location," said Mr Howard.
"It's been a huge project, and I want to thank everyone at Council, Essential Energy, Vertex Power and Process, and GTE who worked together to get it completed.
Mr Howard also wished to thank everyone for their patience and support during the works.
"I really want to thank all the motorists, and the business owners in particular, for their patience during this project.
"We know road works can be irritating for those affected, but I think this upgrade was definitely well worth the inconvenience.
"I also want to thank the Government for their generous contribution to this project through the Safer Roads Program."
