Rocket to officially launch

Locals are invited to celebrate the official reopening of Patton Park this weekend.

The reopening will take place on Saturday and will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, free BBQ, and children's activities.

The park recently received a $700,000 refurbishment funded by the State Government, Broken Hill Environmental Lead Program, and Broken Hill City Council.

The upgrade includes a new playground with a rocket feature, along with new paths, barbecues, shelters, accessible toilets and amenities, CCTV, and smart lighting powered by renewable energy. 

Although the Park has been open to the public for several months, Mayor Darriea Turley AM said she was excited to give the facility an official launch.

"The public response to the park has been amazing, it's brought the whole Patton precinct to life," she said.

"It's been open for a little while now which has served as a good test period, and allowed us to do some other finishing touches around the park to ensure everything is spot on.

"We're now at the stage where we can give it an official launch, and we hope lots of families come along on the day celebrate this new great asset for our community."

The official reopening of Patton Park will take place at midday on July 20, with a free BBQ running until 2pm.
