Thomas Street to close for reconstruction

Locals are advised that Thomas Street at the front of the hospital will be closed from October 7 to December 20 for road reconstruction.

The work will take place between Sulphide and Chloride Streets, with pedestrian access to remain available.

To help offset the loss of parking during the works, Council has converted Chloride Street to angle parking, and motorists are asked to be aware of the change of conditions.

Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said the work was long overdue.

"This area of road was reconstructed around 15 years ago, and it's probably no secret that the work didn't solve the issues associated with this street," he said.

"The road has been gradually failing for some time and it's now at a point where we have to undertake reconstruction.

"We've sought independent engineering advice to find a solution, and we believe this reconstruction should offer long-term stability and durability for this troublesome stretch of road.

"There's never a convenient time to undertake work of this nature, so all we can do is ask locals to be patient, and we'll do all we can to get the project completed as quickly as possible.

"We'd also like to thank the Far West Local Health District and Super Clinic for their understanding and communication throughout the preparations for these works."
