Vandals target Patton Park

Mayor Darriea Turley has expressed disappointment over ongoing vandalism at the newly refurbished Patton Park.
The park has proven to be a drawcard for local families and greatly enlivened the Patton Street area.
Unfortunately, the new facility has also attracted vandals, who have caused significant damage in the past few weeks.
Panels on the Rocket slide have been kicked in, the spout has been ripped from the children’s handwashing station, and a receiver to provide free internet to park users has also been smashed.
Graffiti has been etched into a toilet door, basins have been blocked with wood chips, and sprays for the park's watering system have been kicked in.
Mayor Darriea Turley said the vandalism would be a source of deep disappointment for both staff and the community.
"We really didn't want to go out with a negative message around what has been such a positive project, but unfortunately the vandalism is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed," she said.
"It's just so disappointing that some people feel the need to go out and destroy a facility that has quickly become a key asset to South residents and businesses, and the wider community.
"It's also a burden on Council to have to divert manpower and money away from other operations to be constantly repairing vandalism.
"Ratepayers already contribute to the construction of facilities like Patton Park, they shouldn't have to pay again to have these amenities constantly repaired."
Mayor Turley said Council was in the process of reviewing recent CCTV footage from the park, which will be provided to Police.
