As National Volunteer Week draws to a close Council wishes to again thank all volunteers who have contributed to the community.

Mayor Darriea Turley AM said this year's theme of 'Changing Communities, Changing Lives' was particularly relevant to Broken Hill.

"Many organisations and residents within our community are reliant on the tireless work of volunteers," she said.

"Volunteering has been a cornerstone of Broken Hill right throughout its history, it's one of the things that make us such a great community.

"Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on both volunteers and the people who depend on them.

"I think everyone is looking forward to a time when things return to normal and everyone can get back to doing what they do best."

Chair of Council's Volunteer Committee, Councillor Marion Browne, said it was disappointing that the annual Volunteer Awards and Dinner had been disrupted by the pandemic.

"It would be nice to all gather together at the Civic Centre and pay tribute to our volunteers, but we can all still acknowledge their work without an official function.

"Everyone in Broken Hill knows the amazing work the city's volunteers undertake, and I encourage everyone to wish them well over the weekend."
