Volunteers needed to boost adult literacy
Published on 16 February 2022
The Broken Hill Library is seeking volunteers to participate in adult literacy tutoring.
The volunteer program offers support for people having difficulty with speaking, reading and writing English, undertaking basic numerical skills, or managing their personal finances.
Free online training sessions for volunteers will be held in February and March, and will be led by adult literacy specialist and star of the SBS documentary 'Lost For Words', Jo Medlin.
Council's Library Coordinator, Tracy Fraser, said volunteers would be undertaking an important service to the people of Broken Hill.
"Once trained, the volunteers will be part of a group that provides tutoring in these vital skills," said Tracy.
"It's a great way to give back to the community, and I am certain it will be extremely rewarding for the volunteers."
Those interested are encouraged to contact Tracy on (08) 80803460 or email Tracy.Fraser@brokenhill.nsw.gov.au
The online training sessions will be held at the library between 10am-2pm on February 26, March 5, and March 12.
QR Code sign-in and masks will be required (subject to changes in the NSW Health Order).
