2023

In early 2023, Broken Hill City Council engaged urban designers Jensen PLUS to prepare concepts to redesign the Broken Hill Town Square.

The Broken Hill Town Square Redevelopment will help ‘’reactivate’’ the CBD by making this important public space more functional, more accessible and more flexible for community events.  It will also form part of a ‘’Welcome Walk’’ between the Railway Station and Sturt Park.

The project aims to:

  • Replace and improve Town Square infrastructure.
  • Open the pedestrian flow from the Railway Station into the Town Square.
  • Consider use at town square festivals and events.
  • Look at the feasibility of installing a water feature.
  • Consider opportunities for tree planting.
  • Create a ‘Welcome Walk’ that improves the public face of the CBD from the train station, and in particular the Town Square
  • Enhance lighting.

Broken Hill City Council and Jensen PLUS have developed three concepts for the town square and a carpark concept. We are seeking community feedback on the concepts so please complete the online survey to help shape the future of this exciting project.
